Snorkel.tel idea: a satellite-connected boat transmits an optical laser signal to an above-water snorkel receiver for an augmented-reality mask.

Snorkel.tel is a creative idea for a snorkeling experience that combines communications technology with an augmented-reality mask. I reacquired the Snorkel.tel domain on October 23, 2026, after having owned it previously.

Imagining an Internet-Connected Snorkel

Imagine snorkeling over a coral reef while a display inside your snorkeling mask helps identify the marine life you are looking at and provides useful information about the underwater environment.

A possible communications arrangement would have a boat receiving internet service from a satellite. A carefully aligned line-of-sight optical laser link would connect the boat to a small receiver at the above-water tip of the snorkel. Electronics associated with the snorkel could then supply information to the augmented-reality mask.

The boat-to-snorkel connection in this proposal is an optical laser link through the air, not a radio link. The concept would require research into moving-platform alignment, optical safety, waterproofing, power, snorkel ergonomics, and visibility under changing conditions.

A Research and Journalism Hobby

Snorkel.tel is an idea to explore and a subject for independent, recreational journalism. Following existing inventions, studies, patents, and new developments may be as interesting as the imagined system itself. This page is not an announcement of an existing product or a commercial effort to manufacture one.
